Jenny Baxter is the face behind the camera at Still More to Explore. When she was 15, the eldest of 4 children, she lost her father unexpectedly to a snake bite on their family’s farm. In the following days and weeks, while searching for photos to help preserve his memory, her family realised they did not have a single photo with all six of the family together. This was the catalyst for Jenny’s interest in capturing moments in history through photography.
Her maternal grandmother, an artist, would pore through Jenny’s photos, always taking in every detail. She would frequently comment on how they made her feel like she was there. To this day, Jenny takes her photos “for Ma,” despite sadly losing her beloved grandmother several years ago.
Jenny aims to capture scenes that help preserve memories, to ‘freeze frame’ a moment and place in time. She hopes that in doing so, her images help create a sense of ‘being there’ for all those who view them.
With so many beautiful places around Port Stephens to spend time in a pristine natural environment, Jenny continues to explore and to strive for that perfect shot that captures the sense of just what it was like to be there. And as she says, “There’s still so much more to explore.” An apt name for her online photographic gallery.
